Organic Gardening

Local and Online Gardening Resources

Native Seeds/Search is a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of ancient American Southwestern and northwest Mexico crops and their wild relatives by gathering, safeguarding, and distributing their seeds, while sharing benefits with traditional communities. A great resource for native seeds as well as desert organic gardening guidelines.

The Urban Farm: Learn about Greg Peterson's, permaculture or download articles. You can register for a weekly email about organic gardening and landscaping or read Greg's Blog, which covers a wide range of environmental topics.

The Garden Guy: Your local guide to organic gardening in the Southwest. Located in downtown Phoenix, you can call or email Dave the Garden Guy with your questions.

Desert Botanical Garden: growing guides, advice, and workshops.

The Urban Homestead: An urban farm in Pasadena sharing their experiences in an online blog. If you click on the link, "Community," it will take you to a discussion thread where users can pose questions and share ideas.

Organic Gardening: The online version of one of the oldest organic gardening magazines in the U.S.

Organic Gardening Discussion Forum: Search their FAQ or post a question on their discussion forum.

TreeLink: This site isn't organic, but Tree Link: the Urban Forestry Portal, provides a wealth of knowledge about trees. If you are concerned about environmental footprints, you will want to research elsewhere about which trees are good for your local area.

  • Their Care and Maintenance page in the Resource Center provides links to several guides about growing and maintaining trees.
